Social Media Specialist

Lead the social media charge for one of Canada's top TV producers. Paperny Entertainment, an award-winning producer of documentary and factual programming, is hiring a Social Media Specialist. This is your opportunity to bring your social media skills to a fast-growing company that has numerous shows in production and has just opened a new office in NYC.

Each of our shows has its own unique personality and community, and each requires its own approach to outreach. The ideal Social Media Specialist will be able to tap in to these communities on appropriate platforms and engage with them through ongoing blogs, tweets and Facebook posts.

WHO YOU ARE

You're at least as obsessed with what makes a great community as you are with online technology. You have an understanding of and love for television. You’re an avid viewer of current factual television shows.

You probably have your own blog, a personal website or an online community you call home. Basic audio and video and stills editing hold no terrors for you, and you know your RSS from a hole in the ground.

  • You know how to develop a marketing strategy that makes smart use of testing and metrics. 
  • You're great at sourcing and creating content, and at getting the best from other writers and content creators.
  • You've got very strong computing skills on Mac/PC, lots of experience using social networks and blogging tools, plus knowledge of HTML, Drupal and Wordpress (CSS and/or PHP skills a plus).

You’re spontaneous, with an engaging, authentic online voice. You write quickly and well, with a distinctive style that works on the printed page, a static website or a blog post, and adapts accordingly. You could interview the winner of a skateboard jam or a newly-hired CEO, and interact comfortably and appropriately with either one.

  • You’re eager to meet and exceed objectives and take on more responsibility.
  • You know how to work independently and structure your own work, but also enjoy working with a larger team.
  • You’re able to communicate results to management in a fast-paced environment. 

You understand us at Paperny Entertainment, our mission, our values and what makes us different from the rest. We don't necessarily expect you to have experience in professional television production – but you should have an aesthetic sensibility, a passion for good storytelling, and a creative spark that just doesn’t quit, Knowledge of the broadcast industry is an asset.

ABOUT THE JOB

This is a full-time staff position starting immediately at our Vancouver office, located at 5th Avenue and Quebec Street. We offer competitive salary as well as a benefits package.

You’ll create and animate online communities where people can engage and connect around our company and each episode of each of our shows – the topics, the hosts, and the characters.

  • Develop and enact social media strategies for current and future shows;
  • Research and write content on a wide range of topics;
  • Kick off discussions, moderate comments;
  • Build audiences for our shows and online feeds;
  • Engage with audience members, responding to their queries and requests;
  • Maintain and groom our various websites, Twitter feeds, YouTube channels and Facebook pages (each show has its own feeds);
  • Manage our publicity assets;
  • Create online and offline events to engage viewers and dovetail with specific broadcasts;
  • Liaise with our conventional publicists to help bring attention and audiences to our shows; and
  • Advise and deliver on a strategy to keep the community vibrant, diverse and growing.

Story Editors / Writers

We have a frequent need for Story Editors / Writers for our factual television projects.

Candidates MUST have professional television credits as a story editor or writer on documentary, lifestyle or docusoap series. Dramatic writing credits are also an asset.

Qualified candidates should send a current CV with list of references who can speak to their most relevant experience. Links to online examples that highlight their writing / story editing are also encouraged.
