DIRECTOR DOUGLAS ARROWSMITH’S FILM FESTIVAL GEM STEALS THE SPOTLIGHT THROUGHOUT 2011: STAY TUNED!
A JOURNEY TO THE HEART AND SOUL OF WHAT SONGWRITING IS TRULY ABOUT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Vancouver, BC, January 25th, 2011 – Paperny Films and director Douglas Arrowsmith’s feature music documentary, “Love Shines”, is set to steal the spotlight throughout 2011 and will be presented at the Available Light Film Festival in Whitehorse, YT, on Friday, February 11th at 7:45pm PT. The critically acclaimed film received rave reviews from media, ardent devotees, and newfound fans during its worldwide premiere at the 2010 Vancouver International Film Festival and was selected as one of the top ten Canadian films to see. Eight years in the making, the film takes us to the core of Ron Sexsmith’s gift for song, intimately revealing his elements of character along the way.

Love Shines” was commissioned for festival release by Astral’s The Movie Network and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central with funding from Astral’s Harold Greenberg Fund and Rogers Documentary Fund. Ron Sexsmith’s long-awaited new album Long Player Late Bloomer will release in the U.K on February 28 and in North America on March 1, followed by a worldwide tour throughout North America and Europe. In “Love Shines,” the curtain is pulled back for a rare glimpse inside the recording studio as Sexsmith partners with legendary hit-maker producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe). The process with Rock turns introspective and, through a series of flashbacks, the songwriter confronts the meaning of success, the realities of the music industry and the humble beginnings that sparked the birth of his songs.

Punctuated by Super 8 footage chronicling the early years, an extraordinary playlist and a stellar cast featuring Elvis Costello, Steve Earle, Feist, Kiefer Sutherland and Daniel Lanois, “Love Shines” is a journey to the heart and soul of what songwriting is truly about.

Douglas Arrowsmith, Gemini award-winning director and producer, began producing current affairs documentaries for television a decade ago. His last feature film, “Memory & Desire” (2009), is a hauntingly poetic journey with brit pop songwriter Stephen “Tin Tin” Duffy (Duran Duran’s founding singer), which premiered at London's 17th Raindance Festival in 2009. The film was nominated "Best Micro-Budget Feature" and received a nomination for the "Sound & Vision Award" at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen, Denmark. Douglas has a PhD in Social & Political Thought from York University.
